Happy New Year! Forthcoming in February issue of T Happy New Year! Forthcoming in February issue of Travel + Leisure. A story about @glacierbaynps (one of eight #nationalparks in @travelalaska my mother asked me to visit after her death). This is the essay I’ve been working on since March. As you consider future travel plans in the new year, #glacierbaynationalpark is a great place to heal from this pandemic. See for yourself why this place is called a living laboratory of how #naturerecovers from catastrophic events and why my memoir ends here. You will need to reserve in advance as there is only one place to stay @glacierbaylodge ... the season is from late May to mid Sept although the visitor center is open all year round.

This #photo is one of two that will appear with the article. Through @glacierbaylodge you can board a high-speed catamaran to the face of #johnshopkinsglacier which rises about 250 feet above sea level. This #glacier is known for its turquoise sheen and black bands of debris. It’s one of our planet’s few advancing #tidewaterglacier ! If you look closely at #myphoto , you’ll find black-legged #kittiwakes waiting for the ice to #calve into the ocean and stir up plankton. There are also dappled gray #harborseals pups drifting by on #icebergs ...safe for the time being from killer whales.

My husband and I were celebrating his #bday. I needed a #datenight that would also help us #heal from the #grief of our #conure dying right before we sat down for #thanksgiving. The added pain...being that we might have caused his #death with our #selfcleaningoven ! The workshop lasted two hours and here’s what we came up with. Can you guess which one is mine? I had never seen my husband #paint before and I loved watching him using the right side of his brain and truly #letgo for once of all the #stress in our lives. The room we were in was on the 11th floor. The next two photos show the view while we painted. #hyatt @tahoenorth #tahoenorth #laketahoe #laketahoelife #california #californialove #californiaadventure #northlaketahoe
#swimming in a #pool has been the greatest challen #swimming in a #pool has been the greatest challenge during this #pandemic . How have you worked around the issue of staying #sixfeetapart in #pools? At the @hyattlaketahoe in @tahoenorth you can swim from 8am-10pm year round. The pool is so large we didn’t have a problem with enjoying the whole place to ourselves! My kids loved the indoor entrance (first photo) and the water wasn’t too hot or too cold. It was hot enough for us to #swim outside and see the steam rising.

Swipe left to see their 24 hr #gym with 6 @onepeloton #pelotonbikes. My husband’s favorite. I of course enjoyed the peace and quiet of the #lakefront #cottages (#petfriendly by the way) where I got a lot of reading and writing done.
